Despite having a phone function, this device is not really a phone (or a rebranded e-ink phone!) it is an e-reader with a phone function (probably intended for WeChat which also has books) I have never tried putting in a SIM but will most likely not work outside of China. apks more easily, you can do that yourself though). The non-modified (slight traces) listing will come with the normal launcher/apps, and although almost certainly not rooted it could also be "pre-unlocked" (mine was, which for these devices means they've enabled USB debugging and sideloaded a file explorer app so you can install Android Apps as. It's unclear if they've achieved this by simply changing the default launcher or if it's "rooted", it has a Root Explorer (this could just be a file explorer with that name though) and some other apps like MoonReader pre-installed. The two options (both red) have these differences: one is listed as slight traces which is the "used" condition and they have one listed as desktop which they have modified (as explained and pictured in the listing) to remove the contacts, phone apps, as well as the Tencent reading app (basically the Chinese equivalent of de-googled). I've searched for it and although it shows up as available on two listings at the moment it's only really available from id=636374837556 and only in color red. The item listed as "yellowing" they mean it as a defect or item condition. The listing you share appears to be for for Pocket 1 and the Facenote F1 e-ink phone which is a rebrand/clone of the old Hisense A5 phone (remarketed as an e-reader) and is larger/phone-like and apparently not great. No worries, let me help out, your Chinese text is correct, the one I have is Pocket 2 (口袋阅2 or 口袋阅Ⅱ) there is a first generation which is slightly more squared, the Pocket 1 (see photo here for difference) Highly recommend a small e-reader it's beyond comfortable to read in one handed (I an even flip pages with the volume keys). I would think the Inkpalm is just as good. Kindle app also works fine but had to download it as the inbuilt one is locked to the Chinese store. The native reading app looked lovely but was awful for rendering English text and limited so I installed Koreader, works like a CHARM. I got mine pre-owned from Taobao and it was actually new (turned out it was a display piece) I'm unsure what the software is on the Inkpalm but I had to tweak mine a bit to be able to download Android apps and have the menus display in English. It's a little harder to find than the Inkpalm as I understand it was released as an incentive for people to subscribe to the Tencent book service in China (kind of like the Kindles) but these were offered for free as long as you subscribed/fulfilled a daily reading thing, in a sort of drop.Īs I understand the only practical difference with the Inkpalm is that it doesn't have mixed color backlight (blue only) it's smaller/thinner and has some different specs. I have a slightly smaller one than the Inkpalm, called the Tencent Pocket II.
